Know your snow conditions!

AVALANCHE SAFETY AWARENESS:

The Sled Shed is an advocate of educating snowmobile riders about Avalanche Safety. We have promoted Avalanche Awareness classes the past 4 years and are continuing our efforts by offering classes this season.

Our instructor is looking for leaders become trained in Avalanche Awareness Safety, so riders across the State of Washington can become more educated in this area and ride safely.

As a retailer in the snowmobile industry, we believe that every rider should have the opportunity to learn the proper use of their avalanche beacon, recognize basic snow conditions and ride safely in our terrain. Our biggest goal each time we go for a snowmobile ride is to not only have fun - but to come home alive. The Sled Shed cannot achieve this goal alone.

Therefore, we are recruiting individuals to be trained in Avalanche Awareness, to teach these basics across the state. Currently the state snowmobile association (WSSA) consists of 6 districts and 42 registered clubs within those districts. We are encouraging the Chairs and Presidents of those districts and clubs to become more pro-active in providing awareness education to their members as well as other riders in their areas. Afterall, the life that is saved could be one of their own.

Refresher courses are also helpful, so in the event we or someone we are riding with is involved in an avalanche, we can act quickly and efficiently to handle the situation. Training and proper use of our equipment is crucial to the outcome of an avalanche incident being a "search and rescue" instead of a "search and recovery". Let's join our efforts and eliminate the snowmobile fatality statistics resulting from avalanches to zero in Washington State.
